490 Fort Bliss Soldiers will deploy to combat Ebola-in-West-Africa—Ebola-outbreak

KVIA.com reports that 490 Fort Bliss troops being sent to Liberia to help combat the spread of Ebola, US Rep. O’Rourke says.

Fort Bliss spokesman Lt. Col. Lee Peters said the Department of Defense has tasked the 1st Armored Division to provide aviation assets in support of Operation United Assistance.

“While the exact number of troops, equipment, location and date of deployment to West Africa are still being developed, their assigned mission will be providing logistical and transportation support to US personnel and international health care workers,” Peters said in a statement.

Peters said the 101st Airborne Division, from Fort Campbell, Kentucky will serve as their immediate mission command element while in support of Operation United Assistance.
